AI use & data retention

Provider references reviewed September 5, 2026

Genius uses AI in different parts of the mortgage process and is model-agnostic. Depending on the task, we may use OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Anthropic Claude. We may switch models based on accuracy, cost, and the needs of the feature. The provider used for a particular task may change over time; your information is not necessarily sent to every listed provider.

What AI may process

Depending on the feature, AI processing may involve prompts, conversation context, documents, audio, and generated responses. AI output can be incomplete or incorrect and should be reviewed before it is relied on for lending or other consequential decisions.

Your lender’s records

Your loan documentation and application information are stored with, or on behalf of, the lender you apply with in an isolated lender workspace. They are kept separate from other lenders’ workspaces. Authorized processing by Genius and its service providers, including AI providers where a feature uses AI, is distinct from this separation between lenders.

Lenders using Genius are responsible for retaining required loan documentation in accordance with applicable state regulatory requirements and federal requirements, including rules administered by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Important application, disclosure, and loan records must be preserved for the applicable retention period. Requirements vary by record type, transaction, and jurisdiction; deletion requests do not override legally required retention. Contact your lender about the retention schedule and privacy notice that apply to your loan.

Provider retention policies

These summaries describe published provider policies, not a promise of a particular retention setting for your Genius workspace. The applicable service, model, account configuration, and agreement determine actual treatment. Consult the linked policies for exceptions and updates.

OpenAI

OpenAI documents default API abuse-monitoring retention of up to 30 days, with legal exceptions. Stored application data can follow different endpoint-specific rules. Modified monitoring and zero data retention require eligibility and configuration; they do not apply automatically to every feature.

Anthropic · Claude

Anthropic generally deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, subject to its stated exceptions, including agreements, policy enforcement, legal requirements, and features with separate storage rules. Model-specific retention requirements may apply; zero data retention is not universal.

Google · Gemini

The Gemini Developer API documents 55-day retention for abuse-monitoring data. Paid and unpaid services have different data-use terms, and features such as grounding have separate rules. Vertex AI is a separate service: its policies should be checked when that deployment is used.

Genius records & deletion requests

Provider retention covers data held by that provider. It does not determine how long Genius or your organization retains account records, uploaded files, conversations, outputs, logs, or backups. Provider deletion does not automatically delete these separate copies. Contact our team for the retention terms and deletion process applicable to your deployment.

Retention and model training are separate matters. This page does not promise zero retention or a universal training opt-out. Additional providers may be introduced; their applicable policies should be identified when they are used.
